Kingsclear First Nation

Community Access Centre

The Kingsclear First Nation Community Access Centre is located within the Wulastukw Elementary School. The centre caters to a variety users.  The first of which is the After School Program that uses it from 2 - 4:30 p.m. daily with the exception Fridays when it is closed.  Children that go to city schools and our school come in between 3 - 4 p.m. and sometimes stay till 9 p.m. surfing, chatting and getting school projects done.  This age group makes up about 85% of our daily visitors.

The girl to boy ratio at the center is approximately 70% - 30% respectively. Also our repeat visitors make up between 90 - 95% of our daily users. Our access centre is open to all the public.

The services that are available at our centre vary greatly.  Some of them include training from several packages from the MS Office suites, printing, digital camera use, instant messaging, e-mail use, surfing, scanning, special program for the visually impaired, boater's safety course, etc.

I am happy to report that the Access Centre is an important way of keeping our youth occupied in cyberspace. Since we are located in a school we have the added protection of Websense to filter out most of the adult content and forbidden sites.

We currently have 13 computers on site, 9 of which have been replaced within the past 16 months.

We welcome you to drop by anytime that you are in the area to check out and possibly use our facility.  Whether it be to check your email, scan, take a course,  print or any other service, the center is open to you.
